In a five-day online workshop (spread over five weeks), participants were trained about the nature and history of rent law in Egypt. They then investigated practical methods to reform Egypt’s rental market with the aim of supporting access to affordable housing for low-income households, while at the same time ensuring the balanced protection of tenants’ and owners’ rights.
The workshop included 8 participants from civil society, international agencies, academia, and journalism, and concluded with a set of recommendations for rent reform to increase tenure security, incentivize rental, improve tenant-landlord relations and support affordable rents.
